Role Playing Quidditch
A nice summary of Quidditch rules can be found at the Harry Potter Fanzone. Please familiarise yourself with the rules of Quidditch before role-playing in a match. On this page... (hide) Thread structureEach Quidditch match will be role-played within two threads.
Post lengthPosts should be kept to under 2 paragraphs (unless there is a special need for the post to be longer). Quidditch matches need to move quickly, and long posts make it difficult for members to follow the action. However, to keep the game interesting posts should be at least one full paragraph (at least 3-4 full sentences). If your post doesn't meet this requirement, your character's action will fail (eg a Keeper won't block a goal, a Beater won't hit their target, a Chaser will lose the Quaffle). Colour codingCertain parts of Quidditch posts should be colour coded. These include player names, balls and referee posts. The following colour codes should be used during Quidditch matches:
These codes are also available in the 'Change Color' dropdown list on the new post page. Using these colours makes it easier to see when your player needs to respond and helps readers quickly know which team is doing what, etc. Post frequencyTo give everyone a fair go, no more than 4 posts should be posted by one member in 24 hours. Errors in postsEnsure you have read all new posts before responding. If you post about something that hasn't happened you will lose 5 house points. If someone posts incorrectly about an action in the game, make an OOC post and the game will stop until a Referee responds. PowerplayDo not role-play your character as being too skilled in Quidditch. Unnatural ability will result in an OOC comment from a referee. If you continue to role-play your character with 'super-powers' a message will be sent to Admin to follow up on the matter and could result in your removal from the Quidditch team. InactivityIf your character is in possession of the Quaffle and you haven't posted for 24 hours another play may steal the Quaffle from your character. If a Keeper hasn't responded to a goal within 24 hours the goal is assumed to go in, and the Referee will post the ball returning to play. If you don't respond to a Bludger attack on your character within 24 hours it is assumed to have hit your character, and your attacker may post it successfully hitting your character. Starting matchesAll match threads will be linked to the calendar. They are locked until the match begins. The match will be started and unlocked by a member of the Quidditch group. After the first post, 24 hours is allowed for players to post if they wish. The head referee will post the release of the balls 24 hours after the thread was unlocked. First possessionsThe first Chaser to post after the balls are released may take first possession of the Quaffle. The first beaters to reply may 'take possession' of the Bludgers. ScoringThe Quaffle must be passed twice (consecutively) before shooting for a goal. Example 1:
Shaun catches the Quaffle and passes to Jane. Example 3:
Shaun catches the Quaffle and passes to Jane. Pass vs StealPass vs Steal
Appearance of the SnitchThe appearance of the Snitch follows are very precise process. This process is outlined below. Seekers may post at ANY TIME looking for the Snitch. Seekers are encouraged to interact in the game so the Beaters can hit Bludgers toward them. These posts do NOT count toward the three final posts. The Snitch will appear on a predetermined page of the match thread. This secret post number will be decided before the match commences and will be PMed to both Seekers. When the predetermined page comes about, the referee will wait for both Seekers to be online. The referee will PM them to ensure they're ready. Both Seekers must reply they're ready. The referee will post the OFFICIAL release of the Snitch when both Seekers have confirmed that they are ready to go. After all of these steps have been taken and the Snitch is released, THEN the Seekers must have a 'race to the end' by posting two posts (2 paragraphs -- 7 full sentences each) spotting the Snitch and racing after it. During this time there must be at least 1 other post (from any other player - which could be the other Seeker) in-between each Seeker's posts. The 3rd and final post will be attempting to catch the Snitch. Whoever gets that third post in there first, and if all is according to the rules, that team scores 150 points. However, if a Seeker blunders and only posts one paragraph in their post, or a 2 line paragraph, they must fix it before the other team catches the Snitch, or the other team makes the catch. These technique ensures that both seekers are present and can 'battle it out' at the end of the match, thus not giving one team an advantage over another. Catching the SnitchPlease refer to 'Appearance of the Snitch' above for details. If one of a Seeker's final posts does not meet the minimum post length requirements, they may not edit the post. Instead, they must make an extra post trying to catch the Snitch. Pre-writing postsPre-writing posts for Seekers for the end of the game is considered cheating. Any Seeker caught pre-writing posts will automatically be disqualified and the win will go to the other team. FoulsThe following information on different foul types was taken from the HP Lexicon. Penalties for offending players are listed in brackets after the foul description.
The following additional fouls were created by HPH members and will be applied in Quidditch matches:
The if a foul occurs and a member of the opposition posts before the Referee, the foul will go unnoticed by the referee. Otherwise, a time-out will be called by the Referee. Members on the opposing team should send a PM to one of the Quidditch referees if they see a foul occur. Categories: |
