Avatars and Signatures

The following should be observed when editing your avatar (display picture) and signature.

Avatars

You avatar is like a display picture in chat programs like MSN and YIM. It is displayed beside your posts and helps people quickly and easily identify who has posted.

Avatar content

  • avatars should be appropriate to all ages
  • your image should somehow be related to your character - perhaps an image of your character, something that symbolises your character, your character's house etc
  • ensure you have permission to use the image before setting it as your avatar
  • your image can be no larger than 100x100 pixels
  • avatars deemed inappropriate by Admin will be removed with or without notice

Setting your avatar

Your avatar is set in your forum profile settings. Click the 'Profile' link (at the top of the boards), then Forum Profile Information from the menu on the left. You have three options when setting your avatar:

  • upload to server
You can browse your computer for an image and upload it to the Harry Potter Haven server.
  • link to external image
If you have an image online somewhere else (for example PhotoBucket) you can enter the URL of the image. The image will stay in its remote location and won't be stored on the Harry Potter Haven server.
  • server avatar
You can select an image already stored on the HPH server to link with your account.

Avatar permissions

All members are able to select a server stored avatar. Only members who have completed the activation process may upload their own avatar or link to an image hosted elsewhere.

Request an avatar

The Signatures and Avatars board allows you to request an avatar from another member.

Information about this process can be found here.

Please remember, these images are created by fellow forum members who also have other demands on their time. Please keep this in mind when making requests.

Signatures

Signatures are a small amount of text or an image which is added to the end of your posts.

As forum-based role-playing involves reading and writing posts, the following signatures guidelines are in place to prevent signatures from getting in the way of role-playing.

Required content

A link to your character's profile must be contained in your signature. This is added by a moderator on character approval and should not be removed.

Permitted content

The following can be included in your signature:

  • unanimated images not exceeding a combined total size of 600 pixels wide and 200 pixels high
  • up to five lines of unsized text (only default font size allowed)

Signatures are limited to 1000 characters. This includes your compulsory profile link (see Required Content above) and image and link URLs.

Following is a sample signature that complies with all the guidelines:

Prohibited content

The following may not be contained in your signature:

  • adult content or links to such content
  • illegal software downloads, including cracks, hacks, serial numbers, passwords etc or links to such content
  • promotion of sites in competition with HPHavenRPG
  • content in violation of above 'allowed content'

HPHavenRPG and its staff accept no responsibility for sites advertised in signatures and reserve the right to remove or modify any signatures deemed inappropriate or in violation of the above terms.

Request a banner

The Signatures and Avatars board allows you to request a banner from another member.

Information about this process can be found here.

Please remember, these images are created by fellow forum members who also have other demands on their time. Please keep this in mind when making requests.

Goosing

You can find out information about the 'Duck duck goose' game here.

If your signature contains messages from the 'Duck duck goose' game, please restrict this to 5 messages. If you are goosed for a sixth time you need to replace one of your other goosings with the new message.

Face claim

You may wish to choose a celebrity to represent your character in your avatar, signature or other images.

Please see the Face Claim page for information.
