Elizabeth Lightwick
Elizabeth Lightwick is the current Minister for Magic in the United Kingdom. She is famed for being very strong-willed and certain - she will do whatever she feels is beneficial or right for her country and community, regardless of whether or not it is appreciated or understood by the people. Her most controversial decision thus far was the move into Hogwarts; she believes that Hogwarts is no longer at the standard it should be in order to educate the wizarding masses, and investigators have been observing classes and general life at the school for two years now. Lucian was an academic studying advanced Transfiguration who taught at an elite academy; Sylvia was an Auror. Both were strongly pro-Ministry throughout their lives - and hers - and this is likely where her faith in the Ministry originated from. However, her education was a little unusual and rocky. Her parents chose to home-school her for three years before she attended Hogwarts, which meant she joined Hogwarts as a fourth year without knowing anybody there. She soon befriended a girl named Elsie, but things turned sour just before the end of the year as Elizabeth confessed her true feelings for the girl - the heartbreak that resulted from Elsie's absolute dismissal of her led to a ferocious argument and duel. Following this incident she was expelled, and moved to a private institution to finish her education. Aged sixteen, however, an attack on her family home killed both her parents while she stayed at the boarding school she attended - her mother died almost instantly from the injuries, but her father suffered for a few hours before he passed away. During this time she supposedly sat by his side and spoke with him without pause, but the content of this dicussion has remained private despite extensive questioning from reporters. Despite this tragedy, she emerged from the private academy an independent and polished young woman with a perfect record of Os for both her OWLs and her NEWTs. CareerElizabeth always aimed to reach the peak of the heirarchy and become Minister for Magic - she believes she understands absolutely what the wizarding world now needs to do to improve itself and the way it runs. Tired of the corruption and disgusting self-promotion in the Ministry, Elizabeth sought to be completely honest and open as she rose through the ranks - she refused to ever have her reputation marred with any allegations of underhanded behaviour. Such methods are completely beneath her. She entered the Ministry as an assistant to the head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation - an egotistical, selfish sort of man that she didn't like - and quickly rose through the ranks due to her efficiency and clean reputation. She has always stood out from the crowd, and thankfully this natural aura about her saved her from having to lick any boots or be even remotely sycophantic as she ascended the heirarchy; she doesn't believe in smarminess, and doesn't respond at all well if anybody tries it on with her. She famously once said that she'd rather be surrounded by people she hated than people who couldn't do their jobs. It wasn't a joke. After many years' hard work in the Ministry, she was eventually appointed the position of Minister for Magic at the age of forty-one. Much like the muggle Prime Minister she is so similar to, she always was - and remains to be - a very devisive political figure, but she is incredibly passionate and dedicated, and thus far almost everything she has put in place has had a positive effect on the wizarding community - whether or not it was recieved well at the time. Personal LifeFollowing the death of Elizabeth's parents at the young age of sixteen, she has lived alone in the family's surviving townhouse in London. She has few friends, and certainly no partner to speak of; she claims that this lack of social interaction doesn't trouble her and that it merely allows her to remain completely dedicated and committed to her position, but really she is quite lonely. It's a difficult job and she never really has time to switch off from it without anybody to distract her or cheer her up. Unfortunately, however, the Elsie incident has somewhat scarred her; she's too wary of going out and looking for any sort of romantic companionship for fear of getting badly hurt again. Categories: |
