Editing HP Haven RPG Wiki

This page contains information for all visitors. It includes basics for new editors, and also general guidelines for all who contribute to the HPHavenRPG Wiki.

New editors

If you are going to edit pages, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with how to edit the wiki. You can practice editing in the wiki sandbox.

Contributing

You're welcome to contribute to the Wiki by creating a new page. See 'Creating new pages' below.

If you are looking for an idea of something to add, check out this page for a list of things that need fixing, and instructions on how to find pages that have been linked but not yet created.

Creating new pages

Before creating a new page, please search the wiki (top right corner) to ensure the page has not already been created. Also, if there is a topic that your contribution would compliment, consider adding your information to an already existing page.

New pages are created by making a link to them. Clicking the link will take you to the 'create new page' screen. If you see a link with a superscript ^? after it, that indicates a link to a non-existent page. Follow the link to create the page!

When you create a new page the edit box will already contain some text. This is the page template that is currently being used. To keep the wiki uniform, please do your best to adhere to the template.

If you see something in the template that you don't understand, ask for help or send an email to rpgadmin@harrypotterhaven.net

If you wish to suggest changes to the template, please use the template discussion page? to discuss with other site users.

Discussion pages

At the top of every page is a Discuss link. Clicking this link takes you to a page which can be used to discuss potential changes to a page. In the case of already established pages, if you wish to make a major change please put your suggestion forward via the Discuss link.

Referencing material

As at http://www.wikipedia.org it's important to reference any information you include in the HPHavenWiki. For example, if you write a short paragraph about something that happened in the role-playing world be sure to include a link to the thread(s) where this occurred.

Insert a reference by typing [[http://rpg.harrypotterhaven.net | #]] You can replace the URL with any address. It is the # symbol that tells the wiki you're inserting a reference. References appear like this -> [1]

You may also wish to include a list of references found in the page at the bottom of the page.

A local copy of PmWiki's documentation has been installed along with the software, and is available via the documentation index. Please refer to the documentation index for information on more advanced topics.
