Demetrius

Demetrius is the head - or sire - of the Spinnwick House coven, and very little is known about him for certain. He was sired at the age of seventeen and has appeared this age for nearly ten thousand years now; nobody knows exactly how old he is but Demetrius himself. He doesn't recall when his birthday is; when he was born they weren't celebrated as they are today. With his slim, angular face, long, thick lashes and pouty lips he has a relatively feminine face, but it is evident he's male; it merely makes him very beautiful to look at. He has a slim frame, usually very pale skin - but this changes with the amount of live blood in his system - and is just a little taller than the average seventeen-year-old. He's not strong physically or magically, but his mind is that of a genius. Over his many years he's learned to speak English, German, French, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Cantonese, Urdu, Dutch, Greek and many more - including, of course, his first language of Basque, though he no longer chooses to speak this. All these are spoken incredibly fluently; when he's making the effort, he can sound like a citizen of any of the countries whose language he speaks.

Mortal Life

No being but Demetrius knows the events of his mortal life, and he never intends to discuss it with anybody. He was born in a small village on the Spanish coast as Aurelio Elizondro - a name he no longer wears. After his twelfth birthday he left for military service, where various events led to his loss of faith. He ran away from service aged seventeen and was sired on the street two months later.

Name

Originally named Aurelio Elizondro, the surname coming from the location of his family home as was tradition in his time, Demetrius detached himself from his mortal name mere months after he was sired. Remaining nameless for a long period of time, he adopted the name Demetrius after spending time in Greece; it means 'devotee of Demeter', the Greek goddess of fertility and caring for the earth. Seeing himself as an eternal guardian for the earth, Demetrius found this appropriate and has gone by the name ever since; so far as he knows, it is his duty to look after the earth as he is the oldest being on it; older-era vampires tended to have little instinct for survival and were often wiped out by 'vampire hunts' similar to medieval witch hunts.

Coven

Demetrius is the sire of the Spinnwick House coven, a large 'family' of vampires located in Southern England. Members include his highest Sergei and his most recent sire, Charles Parker.

Love Life

Though romantically active with many different partners over the years, Demetrius has never properly fallen in love, though he believed that he was when he was aged twelve to sixteen. He understands the strength of bonding and that it does exist, but he has never fully felt it himself; though he is slowly beginning to develop a bond with Elayne Malashima?.
