HIDDEN SECRETS WITHIN THE BOARD

Did you know that there are some things that are quite obvious but yet not the full extent on how to use them is known. As you have read there is so many different little buttons, links and codes, but what about when you want to do something a little more quicker, like PM somebody you see on the Online list. Or if you have an image but find it is too big. There are fast and easy ways to fix all of these without editing, or extra clicks.

RESIZING IMAGES

When posting an image, most of the time they fit well on the site. Yet there are times when an image may seem too big and over crowding the place. Now there is no more worry, for there are some simple easy steps to do this with codes. All you have to do is pick a size.

Example: this is a code for an image at a large size

h*ttp://www.hermann-uwe.de/files/images/blue_flower.preview_0.jpg

Now seeing that it is huge and wanting something small, all you have to do is pick the size. 200x200 will be good.

As you can see there is a clear difference in sizes and you did not have to go into a editing program to fix it up.

See how instead of just the ‘img’ there now stands a width and height to the chosen sizes? That is all you need to do. It will do the rest for you and your image will be down sized to fit how you want.

This will however, change the resolution of the image and so if you make it too big or too small, it may cause the image to be squashed or become pixel looking.

As and added bonus, compliments of Ethan Harkiss, if you only wish to change one of the sides, such a width, then this is possible. All you need to add into the code, is the width=(size) and it shall do the rest once posted. Otherwise, if it is only the height you wish to change, then it works the same way, only needing you to place the height=(size) into the code. Such as shown below:

or

PMING FROM ONLINE LIST OR FROM THREAD

It always becomes a pain that when you see somebody on line, or find a post of somebody’s and want to PM them, but find you have to click their user name to get to the profile and then click on send a message down at the bottom of their profile. Well, there is a much faster way then doing that. Have you ever noticed the little green square that shows up when people are online? You can see it in the online or on their side info in a post.

The green square is a quick button that all you need to do it hit it right away and it will send you right to a new screen for a personal message, with that members name in it ready for you to just type the message and send off.

Sometimes however, on the members side info in a post the square will be blank, brown if you want a color. This does not mean much, as you can still use it to go right to a personal message for them. The square is simply a quick help as you can find it in their full profile as well in their list of contact information.

As noted before as well, there is a small icon like a speech bubble on the side information that can also be used as a quick link to sending PM’s.

THE VANISHING MODIFY BUTTON

You may find that sometimes the modify button at the bottom of each post may vanish after some time. This could be due to the long time from after the post has been made, or due to others posting after.

No worries however, for there is still always the modify button up top of the post to use if you need to edit a post.

REPORTING TO A MOD

Sometimes when you have an issue or see a post that is not suitable to the sites requirements it is known we can report things to a Mod. However, it is not often known that the report to mod option makes it easier. All you need to worry about is hitting a button and it will take you to a new page were you just fill in a couple of things and it will be sent off.

There is no more need in this case for long PM’s unless you want to explain more. It makes things faster and it prelinks the details of of which post it is that you are reporting.

CREATING LINKS

The easy way has been mentioned already, however, sometimes it is not known that instead of having the full link, you can put in words and they will automatically be lightened and will link to which is chosen. How so? Very easy, almost in the same way as other links.

Example: the normal link you will find looking like this.

h*ttp://rpg.harrypotterhaven.net/index.php[/ url]

As you can see it is just the address.

However, in changing the way of posting the link slightly, you will find this.

HPH Forum[/ url]

AS you will see it simply shows the words HPH Forum and not the address but has the same link affect.

MULTIPLE PERSONAL MESSAGES

Something small, but something over looked. While sending messages, some do not know that they can send more of the same message at the one time. All it takes it putting more names in the To: or Bcc: bars.

While one name sends to one, this gives you a chance of mass messages.

However, ten is the max that you can send in one go, and twenty messages is the max messages one can send within an hour.

Example: to send to more then one, all you need is a , between each name, thus it shall look like this.

To: Derek (ADMIN), Peyton Maine, Professor Page (MOD), Elayne Malashima

If you see any * or spaces in any of the image or link lines codes, this is due to the format and to make it easier to understand the code on the forum. However, please remember when using such code, to take out the * otherwise it will not work on the forum.

Feel free to add, just please keep the format used for sizes and such. BeeGee
